Zihua Ixtapa Guide
Short Description Guide to Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo, Troncones and other Guerrero Mexico destinations. Community events calendar, photos, rental and real estate listings, general regional information.
Long Description The twin destinations of Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo lead a largely symbiotic relationship between modern, comfort-rich Ixtapa - with it's golf courses, manicured boulevards and deluxe hotel accommodations - and Zihuatanejo, a growing but still small town that still clings to it's fishing roots, with it's municipal market, bay-protected beaches, early-morning roosters and slow-moving pace.
Zihuatanejo is located on one of the most beautiful, enclosed bays on the Pacific Mexican Coast. Some five kilometers to the north of town lies Ixtapa, which was developed specifically for tourism during the 70's and has now come into it's own as a premier destination.
Our tropical, white sanded beaches are lined with coconut palms and along them you can water ski and parasail, hang out on a hammock with a book, snorkel with the many-colored fishes and watch spectacular sunsets at the close of every day.
The region is popular for sportfishing - some of the main catches being marlin, sailfish, tuna and dorado - and surfers find incredible and consistent breaks along the stretches of coastline both to the north and south of town.
Zihuatanejo is host to fun yearly events such as the Annual Zihuatanejo Sailfest, a sailing regatta held at the end of January and beginning of February every year, and the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival, offering a full week of incredible guitar music played by guest musicians from all over the world.
